The Late Models are the premier weekly racing division at Elko Speedway—fast, sleek, and built for pure performance. These purpose-built race cars feature powerful V8 engines, lightweight chassis, and aerodynamic bodies designed to maximize speed and handling on Elko’s 3/8-mile oval. Late Models represent the highest level of weekly competition at the track, showcasing the region’s top talent. Many professional drivers, including NASCAR stars, have cut their teeth in Late Models before moving up the national ladder. At Elko, these cars deliver side-by-side battles, daring passes, and the kind of edge-of-your-seat action that keeps fans coming back.

The Power Stocks are Elko Speedway’s affordable, entry-level racing division. Built to keep costs down, these cars are mostly factory stock with modifications for safety and performance. They often look like the same four-door sedans you’d see on the street—except with roll cages, racing tires, and battle scars earned from close-quarters action. This class is designed to give new drivers, weekend warriors, and budget-minded racers a place to compete while still delivering thrilling, side-by-side racing for fans. Despite being “entry-level,” the competition is fierce—drivers swap paint, trade positions, and fight hard for every spot.

The Thunder Cars are a staple of Saturday night racing at Elko Speedway—big, powerful, full-bodied stock cars that put on some of the most hard-fought and entertaining races of the season. Built from older-style V8 American cars, these machines have more horsepower and more room for setup adjustments than the entry-level Power Stocks, making them a natural next step for drivers moving up the racing ladder. Fans love Thunder Cars because of their size, sound, and close-quarters racing—door-to-door battles, bump-and-run passes, and plenty of sparks flying under the lights. They’re fast, tough, and always deliver a show.
